Flying to Edinburgh: tips and information for your trip

The “City of Edinburgh”, as it is officially known, is not only the capital of Scotland, but also a hot tip for a vacation that leaves nothing to be desired. If you fly to Edinburgh, you can expect great sights, an impressive history, a cosmopolitan harbor district and, last but not least, the famous Scottish hospitality.

Edinburgh is located on the south side of the estuary called “Firth of Forth” in the east of the country. Almost 525,000 people live in Scotland's second largest city, which has been settled since prehistoric times. The exciting history of both the city and the entire country can be discovered not only in numerous museums, but also in many places in the cityscape itself. The Gaelic name of the city is “Dùn Èideann” and it is just as recommendable for a city trip as it is as a starting point for a round trip across the entire island.

Connecting flight after your flight to Edinburgh

Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is a former military airport that was gradually opened for civil aviation after the end of World War II. Since 1960, only passenger planes have been taking off and landing. The airport is located about 13 kilometers west of the city centre and is optimally connected. After your flight to Edinburgh, you can either take a rental car and drive to the city via the A8 or use one of the various bus connections. The journey takes about 30 minutes by bus. There is also a tram that connects Edinburgh and the airport.

Within the city there are also many bus connections that make it easy to reach all the attractions. The road network is also excellent. You can use the car to drive from Edinburgh to all regions of the country.
