Upgrade at a fixed price
If you decide you want a higher travel class after completing your flight booking, you can book an upgrade at a fixed price here.
Bid upgrade
If you have already booked a ticket for Economy or Premium Economy Class but now wish to switch to a higher travel class, you can submit a bid. With a bid upgrade, you determine the price yourself.
How to book your upgrade at a fixed price or in bid format
Check availability
Access your flight under “My Bookings” and click on “Upgrade flights”. All flights on your travel route that can be upgraded will be displayed automatically.
You have the option of upgrading just one of your flights or both your outbound and return flights at the same time. You can get an upgrade at a fixed price up to 48 hours before departure. You can submit a bid upgrade up to 49 hours before departure.
Select option
First select all the flights you want an upgrade for and then the desired option for each flight.
For an upgrade at a fixed price, click directly on “Continue”.
For a bid upgrade, use the slider to enter the amount you want to pay, then click on “Continue”.
Payment
Enter your payment information and confirm the purchase and/or enter your bid. Your credit card will not be charged until your upgrade is confirmed.

Upgrade with miles
Do you earn miles? Then you can book your upgrade using your miles.
From just 10,000 miles, you can enjoy the benefits of a higher booking class on a flight originally booked for Economy Class. You can use your miles to book your upgrade directly at the check-in desk at the airport or via the Miles & More service team in your country.

General terms and conditions
Upgrades are possible under the following conditions:
- Availability in Premium Economy or Business Class
- Confirmed bookings (not waiting list bookings)
- A valid and issued Economy or Premium Economy Class ticket
- Booked codeshare or scheduled flight operated by Austrian Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines or SWISS
- Upgrades booked via austrian.com can only be booked for all flight passengers travelling on the same booking
If you would like to book upgrades for only selected passengers in the booking, please contact the Austrian Airlines Service Centre.
We will inform you 49 to 48 hours before departure if your bid has been accepted. Up to this point, you can change or even cancel your bid at any time and as often as you like, of course with no charge. After that time, your bid is binding. If your bid upgrade is not confirmed, you keep the seat you originally booked.
An upgrade is not possible in the following instances:
- For flights that you have already checked in for
- For flights where extra services have already been booked but no payment has been made and the relevant documents for the service have not been issued
- For flights where additional services have already been booked which would prevent an upgrade being made (for example, where a pet is to be taken on board the aircraft)
- When travelling with small children up to the age of two years
- Miles & More award tickets are excluded from Austrian Airlines upgrades at a fixed price.
