More connections, more benefits, more comfort

Thanks to the merger with ITA Airways, you will benefit from a much greater choice of travel options. Code-sharing creates more transfer connections within the network. This means greater flexibility in travel planning and implementation for your future trips, as well as coordinated flight schedules with optimized travel times. The five-star hub in Rome Fiumicino will become the Lufthansa Group’s sixth and southernmost hub.

The full integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group is taking place gradually and will include key measures such as its planned inclusion in the global airline alliance, Star Alliance.

Codeshare flights

ITA Airways brings a unique route network in Italy to the partnership. Thanks to the codeshare agreement flights between ITA Airways and the Lufthansa Group airlines will be enabled on over 100 routes across Europe – giving you, our passengers, a wider choice of flights and greater flexibility. ITA Airways flights for travel within Europe can be booked under a Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines or Brussels Airlines flight number. But this is just the beginning: The codeshare partnership will continue to expand in phases throughout 2025, including routes beyond Europe. Connections to South America, Africa, Middle East and Asia will follow soon, with booking available from July. Further routes are in preparation and will be added as the partnership develops.

Loyalty programs

Thanks to the merger, frequent flyers also benefit from expanded opportunities. Miles & More members can now earn and redeem miles as well as Points for their frequent flyer status on all flights operated by ITA Airways. Conversely, Volare members will also be able to earn and redeem Points with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines. Lounges

The lounge network of the Lufthansa Group and ITA Airways is currently being harmonized step by step. This will give First and Business Class passengers, as well as status customers, access to additional lounges. During the harmonization phase, some special access rules may apply. Terminal changes

For optimal connectivity, ITA Airways has moved into the Lufthansa Group terminal areas in Frankfurt and Munich. As a passenger, you will now benefit from seamless connections and shorter walking distances, and there will be no need to change terminals during your journey. In Frankfurt, ITA Airways has moved from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 to enhance connections with Lufthansa Group flights. In Munich, the airline has relocated from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2.

Since February 25, 2025, you have been able to book flights operated by ITA Airways with a Lufthansa Group airlines flight number (codeshares) via Austrian channels. All other flights can only be booked via ITA Airways channels

For codeshare flights this is possible. For any other flights this is not possible right now. You need to use the ITA Airways channels.

Yes. Miles & More members can earn and redeem miles as well as Points for their frequent flyer status on flights with ITA Airways. Members of ITA Airways loyalty program, Volare, will be able to earn and redeem points on flights with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines.
