Coronavirus – current information
There are so many uncertainties about travelling in times of coronavirus and it raises many questions. Please inform yourself therefore about the entry regulations, flexible rebooking options and extensive hygiene measures.
We look forward to welcoming you back on board very soon!
The new Austrian Lockdown Regulation does not bring about any changes for the operations of Austrian Airlines at this stage. The flights currently planned will be operated.
Furthermore, flexible rebooking options continue to apply to all passengers travelling with Austrian Airlines. You can find all the relevant information on our "Travel in times of Corona" page.
Due to the generally weak demand, Austrian Airlines will further reduce its flight schedule from mid-November to mid-December 2020. In addition to the reduction of flight frequencies, the following destinations will be temporarily not served during this period: Bangkok, Bologna, Chicago, Yerevan, Klagenfurt, Cologne, Košice, Nice and Podgorica. Austrian Airlines passengers will continue to benefit from flexible rebooking options.
We understand that you would like to have clarity about the processing status of your booked or cancelled flight as quickly as possible. However, there may be longer waiting times when you telephone our Service Centre and delays in processing written requests due to the latest adjustments to our flight schedule. Our Service Centre staff are doing their best to assist you quickly and will process all rebookings and refunds as quickly as possible.
Please telephone only if your flight is due to take place within the next 72 hours to reduce possible waiting times. Please contact us later if your flight is not due to take place for a few weeks. If you booked your flight via an (online) travel agency, please contact them for travel updates and rebookings.
Please be patient if you have already contacted us and have not yet had a reply. We will definitely get back to you. However, sending several messages via various channels will slow down the processing of your request.
Thank you for your understanding in this dynamic and challenging situation.
Country bans, entry regulations and travel warnings
Some countries have issued a travel warning for Austria or individual federal states and cities.
We ask all passengers to inform themselves about the individual country regulations via the website of the Austrian Ministry for European and International Affairs before commencing their journey.
Please also inform yourself whether different regulations apply in your country of travel (for example for German federal states).
A negative PCR test and/or quarantine may be required depending on the destination country and the regulations. A form asking for your accommodation details will be handed out on board the flights concerned.
In addition, flexible booking options are available for all passengers travelling with Austrian Airlines.
The new exit restrictions in Austria, which will apply for the time being from November 3 to 12 between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., will have no immediate effect on the flight operations of Austrian Airlines. The flights planned for this period can be operated. Arrival/departure from/to the airport in the period before 6 a.m. or after 8 p.m. is permitted according to the regulation (infos currently available in German only) due to the following exceptions:
- Professional and training purposes
- Exercising family rights and fulfilling family responsibilities
- Meeting the basic needs of daily life
- Participation in judicial or official proceedings or official acts
We recommend to keep the boarding pass as proof of travel.
Nevertheless, we ask all passengers to check their flight status on austrian.com before their journey to the airport. Furthermore, Austrian Airlines offers flexible rebooking options for all passengers. All information can be found here: https://www.austrian.com/at/de/reisen-corona#booking
In the event of any travel warnings for Vienna, the rule is: Transfer passengers and passengers who have not been staying in Vienna before their flight, or have travelled to the airport without staying in the federal state of Vienna, are not subject to the testing or quarantine obligation.
Passengers who are only changing flights at Vienna Airport (and are not entering Vienna) are generally governed by the relevant entry regulations of their country of origin. Please inform yourself about individual country regulations. You will find information about international entry restrictions under iatatravelcentre.com. You will find information for Austrian citizens on the website of the Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs. You will find information about entering Austria on the website of the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology.
A travel warning for the federal state of Vienna has been in force in Germany and Switzerland since last week.
Austrian Airlines is now obliged to amend its flights to these two countries.
There will be fewer flights to the following destinations from Vienna until the end of October:
In addition, smaller aircraft will increasingly be used for connections to Germany and Switzerland until the end of October.
This also applies to the destinations Frankfurt and Geneva. Flights to Leipzig and Nuremberg will be combined into one connection. The new route is therefore Vienna-Leipzig-Nuremberg-Vienna until the end of October. Both destinations will remain in the schedule with flights 5 times per week as before.
Despite the reduced capacity, we will continue to serve all previous destinations in Germany and Switzerland.
When entering China, the presentation of a negative Covid-19 test and a Health Declaration Form is required for non-Chinese citizens. Both are checked before departure. If one of these confirmatory documents is missing, you will be unable to board the flight.
