Flights to Oslo

Fly with Austrian to Norway’s capital Oslo and enjoy the unique landscape at the end of the Oslofjord, surrounded by forests and mountains. Both summer and winter are great times for outdoor activities in and around Oslo. In the roughly 1000 years of history Oslo had been burnt down and rebuilt several times. From the early times, the most iconic building of Oslo, the Fortress Akershus, is still around. Most early houses were made of wood and didn’t survive. The Oslo of today was planned and built in the early 17th century. To get an idea what Norway looked like from the Vikings to the present, visit the Norwegian Museum of Ethnology on the nearby peninsula of Bygdøy. Here you will find Viking farmhouses, wooden churches and even a reconstruction of an old petrol station from the 1950’s. Nearby is the Viking Ship Museum with the Oseberg Ship, a beautiful example of the dragon boats used by the wild Norsemen in the 9th century.

More recent is the Munch Museum, showing the collection and the works of the famous Norwegian painter Edvard Munch. If you visit Oslo in the winter, take a trip to the famous Holmenkollen, the ski resort of Oslo. You can get there by taking the subway that will bring you to the cable car. For a good insulation try the Norwegian specialties: fresh Norwegian salmon, fenalår, a smoked mutton, Lutefisk, reindeer ham and elk steak are hard to find anywhere else.
