Mahé

Mahé
Mahé, the main island of the Seychelles, is also the economic and touristic hub of the island state in the Indian Ocean. The capital Victoria claims the title of the smallest capital in the world, having just 25.000 inhabitants. Mahé is covered by lavish jungles that climb up even to the highest mountain at 900 Meters. Here you can have exciting jungle tours on marked trekking paths and see endemic plants and animals like the carnivore pitcher plant. Mahé and the Seychelles are most famous for their unbelievable beaches. Like a postcard palm trees are lining long stretches of fine white sand and deep blue sea. The best-known beach on Mahé is called Beau Vallon and has all the amnesties of a modern beach, including a creole restaurant. But it is also possible to find long stretches of empty beaches to enjoy all alone. Many tourists come here to see the spectacular world under the sea: scuba divers and snorkelers enjoy the unique world of the coral reefs around the island. But the island´s interior has also quite a lot to offer: the Morne Seychellois Park, the biggest national park in the country, bird sanctuary of Roche Caiman, the spice gardens Jardin du Roi and the Sauzier Waterfall are each worth a daytrip. In Victoria you can go to the Sir-Selwyn-Clarke-Market for fresh fruits, vegetables, spices and fish. From here you can have a stroll to the clock tower, a landmark of the city that looks like a small version of London’s Big Ben. From Victoria, you can also catch the ferries to the other islands of the Seychelles, the best known being Praslin and La Digue. Enjoy your stay on the paradise islands and don’t forget to catch your Austrian flight back home.

Worth knowing

Information about Mahé Alongside with La Digue and Praslin, Mahé is one of the three most important islands in the Seychelles, an archipelago north-east of Madagascar. Mahé is also home to the “Morne Seychellois”, the highest point in the country.
