Los Angeles

Los Angeles
Hollywood, Venice Beach, Sunset Strip, Walk of Fame, Beverly Hills: many names of Los Angeles’ attractions are familiar around the world. It is a quite different experience to see them directly than on TV or in the movie theatres. “El Pueblo de la Reina de Los Ángeles”, village of the queen of the angels, was the original name of Los Angeles in 1781. This is quite a claim to make, and it took L.A., as it is called these days, some time to get to the fame and fortune it has today. More than 300 days of sunshine per year lured the movie industry from New York and Chicago to Los Angeles in the early 20th century, when artificial light wasn’t yet good enough for making movies. The early movies were instrumental in making Los Angeles world famous. Mann´s Chinese Theater and the iconic Hollywood Sign come from this early period. Los Angeles is famous for the beaches on the Pacific, some of them are known worldwide. Venice Beach is a good example, but the part of the neighbourhood behind the beach with its beautiful little canals is also worth exploring. Santa Monica Beach with the Santa Monica Pier are also famous, not to mention Malibu with its beach villas on stilts. Star spotters can be successful in Malibu, Beverly Hills and Bel Air. Families with kids will find a great day out with a visit to the amusement parks like Disneyland or Knotts Berry Farm. Visit the Griffith Observatory, in the middle of the biggest Park in L.A., the Griffith Park, which is not only a great observatory but also a famous background in movies like Rebel Without a Cause, Terminator and La La Land. Enjoy the famous nightlife of Los Angeles in the clubs and live music venues, but don’t miss your flight home with Austrian Airlines!
