Hôtel Americano
Perfectly designed and stylish - that`s how the Mexican hotel chain Grupo Habita present their houses in Latin America. With their first hotel in the USA - the Hôtel Americano - they stick to their design concept. Designed by Mexican architect Enrique Norten in a minimalist style, the ten-storey building with glass-steel-facade houses 56 rooms and studios, a rooftop terrace with bar and pool that can be reached via an external elevator, a restaurant and two subterranean bars. The interior comes from Arnaud Montigny. His sources of inspiration were Japan (when choosing the beds) and of course Latin America. The latter becomes visible through the bedspreads in the rooms made of alpaca or the Mexcian Mezcal at the bar. The hotel soft open was in July 2011. In September the hotel started its business in full swing. Rooms starting from 325 dollars.

Brooklyn Bridge
Since 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge has been connecting the two districts of Brooklyn and Manhattan. The construction of steel ropes and gothic archways designed by German-American engineer John August Roebling stretches for almost 1.3 miles across the East River. On its completion date it was the longest chain bridge in the world. Today it is a showplace for athletes and strollers, cinema movies (catch-word: The Fifth Element), supermodels like Agyness Deyn and even for long traffic jams. Under the wooden covered floor for pedestrians, there is a six-lane highway. After arriving in Brooklyn, the road directly leads into the River Café, the Michelin-starred restaurant by the river with a view on the city which fills every New Yorker with pride. The River Café is the birth place of many chefs such as Larry Forgione or David Burke and - especially at mild summer evenings with saxophone sounds on the terrace - it is an extremely popular setting for whispering sweet nothings.

Spice Market
Paul Bocuse ranges among his teachers. Bangkok, Sinapore and Hong Kong range among his stations. Jean-Georges Vongerichten is the name of the Alsation celebrity cook who's been busy in New York as well. His restaurant: the Spice Market in the Meatpacking district. Since 2004 he serves South East Asian street dishes in the style of Thai and Vietnamese cookshops. The guests dine on two floors, surrounded by a wild mixture of artefacts from India, Burma, Malaysia, China and Thailand and tasty morsels continuously arrive at the table. Jacques Garcia was responsible for the design of this huge restaurant (comparable to a bus station). The French architect transports the guests with pagodas and colonial bespoke furniture into a distant world. A strong contrast to the New York peachiness of the Meatpacking District where hipsters shop at Stella McCartney or jog in the High Line Park.

Anthropologie
Men beware! Drink a cup of coffee, surf the web on your iPhone or take a look at the men's shop Modern Anthology in Brooklyn! Because you won't see your women for the next few hours. They lose themselves in between frill-blouses and flared pants, pencil- and wide skirts, platform shoes and bathing suits à la Marilyn Monroe. They deck themselves in long necklaces and beaded purses. Lastly they choose upholstered wing chairs for your living room and give your beds colourfully embroidered covers. How can you stop them from doing that? There is no chance as soon as they enter the described place of delight: Anthropologie. A rather high-priced vintage-mekka on four locations in New York, without the trashy fleamarket-touch. The trendy style (a little rustic, a little coquettish, a little feminine) whirrs somewhere between Laura Ashley and Accessorize. Only without bourgeoisie- and bitch-factor. An advice for orientation: the four stores are located in SoHo, on 5th Avenue, in Chelsea Market and in the Rockefeller Center.
