Flight London - Thessaloniki

The northern Greek metropolis impresses with an exciting, multicultural history and a vital presence.
In Thessaloniki you absolutely have to visit the “Tsipouradika” and “Ouzadika”. These are places that serve “Tsiporo”, the Macedonian grappa and “Ouzo”, the aniseed spirit, to little treats that are called Mezedes. A good address is “Xontro Alati” in “Ermou Street”. Especially the fish dishes are recommended here.
In the evening you can have a wonderful time in “Ladadika”, the former Jewish quarter of the city. The people of Thessaloniki like to compare their quarter to Soho in London or Kreuzberg in Berlin. Not without cause. It is a very alive neighborhood with lots of cafes, pubs and clubs.
From the “Kastro”, an ancient fortification in “Ana Poli”, the Upper Town, you have an incomparable view. On clear days you can even see “Mount Olympus”, the mountain of the ancient gods of Greece. In front of you are rooftops of lots of houses, including domes and many churches, wide boulevards, the port, the “White Tower”, the sea and ships that are far out in front of the bay of the “Thermaic Gulf”. Here in the oldest part of town, there are everywhere typical Macedonian houses. The farther you get down, the more the traditional buildings give way to the modern residential buildings.
