Mask obligation on board lifted

We look forward to seeing your smile again. Because on board Austrian Airlines flights, the mask requirement has officially been lifted. If you feel more comfortable "with", you may of course continue to use your mask.

However, please note that depending on the country of origin and destination, wearing a mask on board may be mandatory. We recommend that you inform yourself about the respective regulations of your country of departure and destination.

Hygiene and safety before your trip

Please protect yourself and your fellow travellers!

Only start your journey if you feel healthy. Check your health for the classic Covid-19 symptoms, such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing, loss of smell and taste, but also for other symptoms of a flu-like infection.

In addition, all passengers are requested to always check the current travel and entry restrictions of the final destination and possible transit points before the planned start of the journey, as these can change at short notice.

Information on international entry restrictions can be found at iatatravelcentre.com, information for Austrian citizens can be found on the website of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs. Information on entering Austria can be found on the website of the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology.

Due to changed processes in the security check at the airport, we kindly ask you to allow more time for this.
During the entire journey, there may be restrictions due to the stricter hygiene and security regulations, for example longer waiting times at the airport security checks.

Protective measures

Austrian Airlines already increased the frequency of cabin cleaning at the beginning of the Corona crisis. This will of course be continued.
In addition to the standard cleaning after every flight, there will also be more frequent intensive cleaning.
This mainly concerns the cleaning of all tables, armrests, seat belts and door handles.

Of course, passengers always have water and soap available for washing their hands in the toilets on board.
Special filters ensure constant cleaning of the air on board during the flight. The standard of this equipment is equivalent to that in clinical operating theatres, which means that the air on board is cleaner than that which a person breathes on earth. In addition, airflow in aircraft takes place from top to bottom. This means that air is unlikely to be distributed between the rows of seats.

At Vienna Airport, there are also increased cleaning activities. So-called "Sneeze Guards" (Plexiglas panes) are installed at the check-in, boarding and information counters.
Floor markings help to keep a safe distance.
In addition, hand disinfection dispensers are available to passengers along the entire route to the aircraft.

Boarding takes place by groups. In this way, an aircraft can be boarded in smaller groups.
In addition, contactless boarding is possible at Vienna Airport through Quick Boarding Gates. A scanner reads the boarding pass. Contact with a member of staff is not necessary.
