A foldable garment baggage with the maximum dimensions of 57x54x15cm is also regarded as carry-on baggage.

In addition to your carry-on baggage you may take one personal item with a maximum size of 40x30x10cm into the passenger cabin, e.g.  one lady's handbag or one  laptop bag or one shoulder-strapped bag.

Are you travelling with children up to 2 years of age?
Then you may take one of the following items on board:

  • 1 baby basket or
  • 1 child car seat or
  • 1 fully collapsible stroller  (max. 10 kg)

If you require baby food for your infant during the flight or if you need medicine due to your health condition, please carry these items in your hand luggage or personal item.  Passengers with reduced mobility may take one pair of crutches or any other kind of prostheses into the passenger cabin.

Important:
Depending on the operating aircraft type and/or fulfilling safety requirements of national authorities, in exceptional cases the hand baggage allowance for our Business class passengers may be reduced to 1 piece of hand baggage only.

Carry-on baggage restrictions

For security reasons, the European Commission has restricted the transportation of liquids
(LAGs – liquids, aerosols and gels) in carry-on baggage when departing at an EU airport.
Please note that outside EU, similar regulations regarding liquids may be in force. Such information usually may be obtained at the internet page of the respective airport.
LAGs in carry-on baggage shall be presented separately from  carry-on baggage at the screening checkpoint.

Liquids in this context includes pastes, lotions, liquid/solid mixtures and the contents of pressurized containers, such as toothpaste, hair gel, drinks, soups, syrups, perfume, shaving foam and other items with similar consistencies.

The following liquids may be transported as carry-on baggage:

•  Liquids, gels and sprays must be held in individual containers not exceeding 100 ml
(max. filling quantity as printed on container, not actual contents). The individual containers
must be placed in a resealable (e.g. "zip-top") clear plastic bag with max. 1 liter capacity.
Only one plastic bag is permitted per passenger. The bag has to presented separately at the
   screening checkpoint.
•  Duty Free liquids in a sealed, standardized security bag, packed together with the receipt.
The security bag must not be opened before arrival at the final destination.
Exception: The security officer might need to open the security bag for screening and will re-seal
    the bag if applicable.
•  Liquids that are intended to be used during the trip and either required for medical purposes
or a special dietary requirement, including baby food.

Here you may access further information on liquids in carry-on baggage.

Flights to the U.S.
Basically the above mentioned regulation is also applicable for flights to the U.S.
Passengers traveling internationally into the United States with a connecting flight will be permitted to carry-on liquids more than 100ml, provided they are presented in a secure, tamper-evident bag with a receipt reflecting the purchase was made within 48 hours. The receptacle containing the liquid must be clear, translucent or tinted. Liquids in opaque or metallic receptacles must not be kept on board when transiting, but packed in checked baggage.

Please observe the list of dangerous goods and prohibited articles below.

reflected in your ticket or booking confirmation.
  • Other rules and tariffs may apply on flights operated by our partner airlines (Codeshare).
  • If you combine an Austrian Airlines flight with those of another carrier, please note that
this airline's rules will also apply to Austrian flights if operating the longest or most significant
part of the journey. Therefore we kindly recommend you to check your free baggage allowance
stated on your ticket or on your booking confirmation.  In this case the weight concept might also
be applicable - then your free bagggage allowance is based on the total baggage weight and
