What is a Favorite Seat?

Seating requests were previously only available for passengers with a Business Class Ticket or passengers holding an Economy Flexible or Economy Basic ticket.

Starting November 26, 2013 our customers holding a redticket will be able to book their Favorite Seat category for a fee. redticket is the term for lowest priced tickets in Austrian Economy Class booked in W, S, T E, L or K class. It symbolizes the respective best price offer.

In future all Austrian customers will be able to select their Favorite Seat – a guaranteed seat category (window, aisle or middle seat) – on their next Austrian flight*.

On which routes is the Favorite Seat offered?

Favorite Seat is available on all Austrian Airlines operated flights for passengers holding an Austrian Airlines flight document.

How does Favorite seat work?

Book your Favorite Seat at the same time with your flight ticket or later up to 48 hours before departure online on austrian.com.
Select your desired seat category (window, aisle or middle seat) by using a displayed seat map and purchase the reservation with your credit card.
Favorite Seat is also available in selected travel agencies.

How much does Favorite Seat cost?

Seat reservation for Business Class and Economy Flexible and Economy Basic fares will continue to be free of charge.

All other passengers who previously could not perform a seat reservation will now be able to select a desired category (window, aisle or middle seat) on short haul flights within Europe and medium haul flights for just 10 EUR and on long haul flights for 25 EUR per seat and direction.

Is it also possible to reserve the seats with increased legroom?

Yes, for the first time Austrian will provide the redlegroom already at the time of booking. Until now the exit row was only available on the Austrian Web Check-in portal as of 36 hours before departure. From now you can book a redlegroom along with your flight booking up to 1 year in advance.

The fees are regardless of the Economy booking class 20 EUR for all short haul flights, 40 EUR for all medium haul flights and 70 EUR for all long haul flights per seat and direction.

What is new is the reservation of the first Economy Class row on Austrian long haul flights for 50 EUR.

Of course, these seats will be offered on Austrian Web Check-in in the short term and subject to availability.

You are traveling as couple or family?

If all travelers can be conducted in the same reservation you are able to select seats for each single travel partner in one process.

You are traveling in a group?

When a group of more than 9 passengers are guided is one reservation, each seat reservation can be made in one process.

What happens in case of a cancelation?

In case of a flight cancelation Austrian will of course refund the amount for your seat reservation.

What happens if you change, cancel or upgrade your flight?

In case of a voluntary change, cancellation or upgrade to Business Class the amount for your seat reservation will not be refunded.

What happens if Austrian has to change your flight?

In case of an involuntary rebooking we will refund the amount if your seating on the new flight does not correspond with the booked category.

How long before departure a Favorite Seat can be booked in advance?

You can book your Favorite Seat at the same time with the ticket purchase up to a year before departure, or at a later date up to 48 hours before departure on austrian.com or by calling us directly. You can find a list of our worldwide contact numbers here.

Will it still be able to select a seat on the Austrian Web Check-in shortly before departure?

The free choice of the remaining vacant seats on an Austrian flight will regardless of the booking class continue to be offered on Web Check-in.

You have bought your redticket a long time ago?

For all tickets which have been purchased before November 26, 2013 (date of introduction) following rules shall apply:

Departures before January 15, 2014
All seat requests remain unchanged.

Departures as of January 15, 2014
Long haul flights: Seat reservations in the lower redticket tariffs (booking classes W, S, T E, L and K) can be performed regardless of the time of booking for a fee of 25 EUR as of November 26, 2013.

Medium haul flights: Seat reservations in the lower redticket tariffs (booking classes W, S, T E, L and K) can be performed regardless of the time of booking for a fee of 10 EUR as of November 26, 2013.

Short haul flights: Seat reservations in the lower redticket tariffs (booking classes W, S, T E, L and K) have so far not been possible here. As of November 26, 2013 you can select a Favorite Seat for a fee of 10 EUR.

You are a HON Circle Member or a Senator?

To our most loyal frequent flyers – HON Circle Member and Senators – seat reservations will continue to be offered free of charge* regardless of the booking class. Now even accompanying persons with low fare tickets can also request a Favorite Seat for a fee.

You travel in Business Class or with a flexible Economy Class ticket?

Seat reservation in Business Class and for Economy Flexible and Economy Basic tickets (booking classes Y, B, M, U, H, G, Q and V) will of course remain free of charge*.
